why do people care so much?

I just don't understand why people make such a big fuss when others try to express themselves. If it isn't hurting anyone, why does it matter? Writing lyrics, writing poetry, drawing pictures, getting a meaningful tattoo, dying your hair a different color, wearing clothes that are different (but still modest)...what is the problem? Why try to bring that person down? I just don't understand!
